What results can I expect from a PR agency on a monthly basis?

Is this your first time hiring a PR agency? You know that they’ll ideally help generate media coverage of your company or product, but you may not be sure what to expect on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

First things first, a good agency will help you set realistic goals. Once you reach an agreement on your shared goals, you should have a clear understanding and expectations.

For example, say your goal is to have your CEO profiled in a nationally recognized publication to drive investor interest or help attract and retain employees. Any agency will advise that this will take time to achieve, and monthly results will revolve around building relationships with key reporters at the publication.

Alternatively, say your goal is to establish an affiliate program to drive purchases. Your monthly results will be focused on building your drumbeat product coverage that drives links to purchase, and perhaps manages an effective affiliate program within which your PR team pitches relevant commerce editors for various trend stories and round-ups.

What else can you expect?

  • Weekly or bi-weekly meetings: These meetings give an opportunity not only for your agency to report back on their activities, but for you to share relevant company updates, brainstorm ideas, and talk about progress towards your goals.

  • Regular feedback: Whether or not media pitching results in immediate results, your agency should be regularly reporting media interest and feedback. This feedback can help inspire new ideas or readjust tactics.

  • Partnership opportunities: Depending on your goals, your agency should be sourcing and proposing potential partners and partnerships to help enhance your PR efforts and extend your audience.

  • Monthly or quarterly strategy check-ins: Your agency should be checking in regularly to have a candid conversation about your work to date, review how you’re tracking to your goals, and perhaps making changes to tactics that aren’t working.
